What is the difference between high frequency welding and resistance welding

May 12,2023 | TOPTEK

Laser welding is a new type of welding method. The target metal is melted after the workpiece is welded by high-energy pulse focusing. It is mainly used for welding precision parts between 0.2-2.0mm thin-walled materials.
Its main features are as follows:
1. High depth-to-width ratio, small weld width, small heat-affected zone, small deformation, and fast welding speed.

2. The welding seam is smooth and beautiful, and no treatment is required after welding
3. The quality of the weld is high, no porosity, the strength and toughness of the weld is at least equal to or even exceeds that of the parent metal
4. The focus light spot is small, easy to realize automation
5. It can realize the inter-welding of some dissimilar materials
6. It is easy to operate and can be used to weld straight lines, arcs and any trajectory.

High-frequency welding refers to a welding method that uses high-frequency current to pass through the resistance heat generated by the joint of the workpiece and applies pressure to form the metal connection of the workpiece.
High frequency welding has the following characteristics:
1. The heating speed is extremely fast, and the welding speed can reach 150-200m/min
2. Due to the fast welding speed and large thermal influence, the weld seam has excellent microstructure and properties
3. The surface of the weldment is not cleaned before welding
4. There are a wide variety of metals that can be welded, and there are many shapes and specifications of the products

But in general, due to:
1. Laser welding is non-contact welding, the fin spacing is small, and the heat exchange rate of laser-welded finned tubes can be increased by more than 2 times
2. High weld strength, no deformation after welding, beautiful appearance
3. The laser welding speed is fast, and the quality of the weld seam meets European and American standards.
